The CELEP member organisation IWGIA (International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs) has published a 6-page Briefing Note “Ethnic violence in Morogoro Region in Tanzania” (March 2015) about human rights violations committed towards Maasai and Datoga pastoralists in the Morogoro Region in southeastern Tanzania. The note includes an analysis of the situation and recommendations to the Government and the Parliament of Tanzania, civil society and the international community.
The process of stigmatisation of the Maasai pastoralists in Morogoro Region and violation of their rights has been building up over the past decade through a series of illegal forced evictions and other actions carried out in the region. This briefing note is intended to help raise national and international awareness about the dangerous situation.
