The 18-page booklet “Participatory Rangeland Management Planning: a field guide” (2018) by Guyo Roba and Jonathan Davies was prepared primarily for staff in IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) dryland projects but could be useful also to other practitioners. Based primarily on IUCN experiences in Eastern Africa, the practical guide illustrates the steps to be followed when engaging communities in rangeland management and planning. The first part introduces the principles of Participatory Rangeland Management Planning (PRMP) and key terms used in the guide. Then the specific steps to guide community facilitators in PRMP are described – from preparatory activities through mapping and planning to monitoring the implementation of rangeland plans.
