Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has supported Kenyan’s development since the 1970s. It has maintained an office in Nairobi since its registration as an NGO operating in Kenya since 1993. The Kenya country office is also responsible for Welthungerhilfe’s operations in Somalia. Geographically, Welthungerhilfe’s intervention areas in Kenya are mainly in the arid and semi-arid lands of Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Tana River, Turkana and Marsabit Counties. Welthungerhilfe also implements projects in Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya and Bungoma Counties.

Welthungerhilfe fights to eradicate hunger and poverty and provides integrated aid from rapid disaster relief to long term development projects. In pursuing its programme goal, the Kenya country programme concentrates its focus on four sectors (1) Humanitarian Aid; (2) Food and Nutrition Security; (3) Local Economic Development and Basic Services; (4) WASH; (5) Support to pastoralists livelihoods.

The fundamental principle for WHH is help for self-help, together with local partners we strengthen structures from the bottom up and ensure success of project work in the long term

The WHH vision is one of a world in which all people can exercise their right to self-determined life with dignity and justice, free of hunger and poverty
