Oil development in Turkana area of north Kenya

In the 15-minute digital story consisting of photos and spoken text, “Perilous prospects: oil in northern Kenya” (2017), Jeremy Lind of the UK-based Institute of Development Studies (IDS) describes the changing situation of Turkana pastoralists and other people in and around the small town of Lokichar in Turkana County of northern Kenya. This is at the frontier of “black gold” – oil exploration and extraction. The story is based on research in the project “Large-scale resource development at the rural margins: assessing implications for governance, conflict and peacebuilding in Ivory Coast and Kenya”.
