Linking relief, rehabilitation and development

The European Parliament’s Committee on Development will hold a public hearing on “Linking relief, rehabilitation and development: towards more effective aid” on Monday, 3 September 2012 at 15:00–17:30 h in the European Parliament in Brussels. The hearing, co-hosted by European Members of Parliament Ms Michèle Striffler and Mr Thijs Berman, will be attended by CELEP partner Michael Odhiambo. He will hopefully be able to bring in pastoralist-related issues, which are not mentioned in the LRRD Policy Briefing Paper for this event. However, the briefing does mention that the European Commission’s Joint Humanitarian Development Framework (JHDF) was applied in the Horn of Africa to guide the analytical work of the Supporting Horn of Africa Resilience (SHARE) initiative. This recognises the need to strategically build resilience to food insecurity and malnutrition in the Horn of Africa to avoid a repetition of large-scale disasters. The invitation to the public hearing can be found here in English and French.
