CELEP-organised visit of MEPs to Uganda

CELEP organised a fact-finding mission of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Norbert Neuser (Socialists & Democrats) and Maria Heubuch (Greens-European Free Alliance) to Uganda in late October 2015.

The visit raised awareness on the challenges and opportunities of pastoralism in Uganda and the entire Eastern African region. This high-level mission drew attention to the need for a coherent strategy of EU policies (domestic, development and humanitarian) to support pastoralist development in the Eastern African drylands. It raised awareness of the need to develop local policies and practices that create an enabling environment for Ugandan and other Eastern African pastoralists. During the mission, CELEP gave special attention to maximising contact between the MEPs and local stakeholders, in particular representatives of local pastoralist organisations.

CELEP compiled a reader as background document to inform the MEPs on pastoralism in Uganda and on relevant Ugandan and European policies.

A full report on the mission can be found here. A short video about the visit can be found here.
