Brussels launch of book on climate-resilient drylands development, 23 Sept 2015

CELEP and VSF-Belgium are organising a Brussels launch of the book Valuing variability: new perspectives on climate-resilient drylands development at the InfoPoint of the European Commission at 43, Rue de la loi, Brussels, Belgium on Wednesday 23 September 2015 from 12:30 to 14:30 h.

Drylands are a big part of our global heritage in terms of the crops and livestock we draw from them and the practices we have learnt about maintaining livelihoods in water-scarce areas. In this new book published by IIED (International Institute for Environment and Development), it is argued that improving agricultural productivity in dryland environments is possible by working with climatic uncertainty rather than seeking to control it. By exploring the vibrant agricultural economies of the drylands that take advantage of variability, this book inverts longstanding negative views about food security in the drylands.
